Final Lab Scenario Testing

Does anyone have advice on how to run final scenario exams? Our students will be able to return to campus soon and need a final lab scenario exam. Usually we have students respond in pairs to live simulated patients, similar to the IOH registry station. I know NREMT posted information a while ago about how they planned to adjust the IOH station but I can’t find it now.

We’re planning to wear PPE, use mannequins, and have them respond alone, but we have not decided yet about whether we should let them verbalize more treatment or lay equipment out for them since they won’t have a partner.

I would like to hear what other programs are doing and any advice would be appreciated

Zoom Hacks to Help Move EMS Class Forward.

Would love to hear everyone's Zoom (or other) hacks to try and keep our students moving forward during our current crisis. So far we are learning each day.

1. Hook an iPad or phone up to your zoom session aim toward your manikin. During the skill demo feature that camera so it enlarges for the participants to see (and the instructor can watch themselves demo). Worked great for our OB instructor yesterday.

2. Use zoom to help proctor exam sessions. We will use our "skills" iPads, install the zoom app, and aim toward the student/computer screen. One instructor will still do "rounds" to physically look at the rooms while the other monitors the zoom session. (Students test in small groups - each student is screened as they enter the building and placed in a separate room and then the table/chair/device disinfected when they leave.)

3. Import a photo with a "scene" and choose that for the background of the presenter who is role-playing a patient.

Please.....looking for more ideas......I'm sure our students will help teach us some. Kim

Emergency Remote Learning in a Crisis Situation

If COVID19 had come along in 2005, or worse, 1995, colleges, universities and training institutions would have been hard pressed to help their students complete their year through remote learning on such short notice. While the transition was remarkably swift, it’s hasn’t been easy, smooth or consistent. In the past month, we have found quick solutions, and going forward we will discover new solutions and fine tune existing ones. Rob Theriault has been teaching online, both synchronously and asynchronously for over 20 years. Rob began “flipping the classroom” in 2000, several years before the term was first coined. In this webinar, Rob will share what he has learned and what he envisions for remote experiential learning in the future.
