The mission of the National Emergency Medical Services Educator Certification (NEMSEC)
is to set the standard by which all EMS educators will be measured.
One way we will accomplish our mission to inspire excellence in EMS education is to offer a certification for EMS education professionals through a valid and uniform process, which assesses the knowledge and skills associated with competent, relevant and structurally sound educational practices. In designing the National EMS Educators Certification examination, we sought to define the difference between entry level and mastery level EMS educators.

NEMSEC, through leadership and a valid certification process, will advance the standard competence for EMS educators worldwide.
Eligibility Requirements
- Possess a minimum of two (2) years of EMS teaching experience as documented by your CV/resume.
- Possess a valid EMS/Emergency Medicine related credential and provide a photocopy of the credential.
- Provide documentation of successful completion of the NAEMSE Instructor Course or provide proof of credential as a current state/federal recognized EMS Educator/Instructor.
- Ensure you are in compliance with the NEMSEC Felony / Conviction Policy 72006-14

Exam Process:
Once you are scheduled to take your NEMSEC exam, have uploaded all paperwork, and paid for the exam, you will receive further instructions via email. The day before your scheduled exam, you will receive a link via email to check your system compatibility. This will ensure that on the day of the exam, everything will run smoothly- so all you have to worry about is passing.
History of NEMSEC
Over the course of the next year, the Board of Directors constructed, rated and standardized a 100 question exam designed to define the line between novice and expert level EMS Educators. The exam standardization process, carried out over several months by a panel of expert educators, and led by a psychometrician, will define pass/fail criteria. Therefore, the percentage needed to successfully complete the examination is defined by a mathematical formula and is not arbitrary. Future versions of the exam may indeed require a different completion percentage based upon the ratings assigned each question by an expert panel.
The EMSECS Board of Directors administered its first examination during the 2006 NAEMSE symposium held in A year later, the second opportunity to take the examination was held at the 2007 NAEMSE symposium in Hollywood, California.
In June 2010, the executive boards of EMSECS and NAEMSE met for a strategic planning session in Pittsburgh, PA. During that meeting, an idea of changing the name to reflect that it was "National" exam was brought forth. At the next EMSECS Board of Directors, the name of the organization was changed to its current name, National Emergency Medical Services Educators Certification, Inc..
